St. Christophers

St. Christopher's Episcopal Church
New Carrollton , Maryland

No matter where in the world you come from, you will find a place for yourself at St. Christopher's.  We are a multi-racial parish with representation form more than 20 nations around the world.  Our members come from Nigeria, Jamaica, Haiti, India, Puerto Rico, Guyana, and many other places, but we are united in our love of God.  Our diversity has put us in the forefront of multicultural ministry and has challenged us to live our lives in accordance with St. Paul's conviction that we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Our worship style is simple and uncluttered. Our altar stands at the center of our nave, representing our conviction that God is the centering point of our lives, the axis around which all else turns. We sit, not filed in a row, but facing one another around God's Table, a single household. It is intimate and close. The intimacy of the space makes it difficult to slip in or out unnoticed. It is impossible to eat or drink at our house without being noticed.

Music is a key expression of our worship and we offer one of the best small choirs in the diocese, with opportunities to sing for both youth and adults, as well as a group specializing in African praise songs.  Our annual concert of selections from Handel's Messiah has become a tradition eagerly awaited each year by devotees throughout Prince George's County.

Our founders conceived the church not as a temple set apart, a shelter from the storm, but as a command post in the battle for God's Kingdom.  We are a sojourner's church, as is fitting for someone named for St. Christopher, the patron saint of travelers.  We strive to live by our motto, "As Christopher traveled with Christ on his back, so you can travel with Christ in your heart."
