In addition to gender, age is another risk factor, and suffer from chronic gastritis, ulcers caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, have pernicious anemia, smoking, suffering from gastric polyps or have close relatives who have suffered the same kind of cancer.

Symptoms: in the early stage may present with indigestion and pains in the stomach, bloating and swelling (swelling after eating), nausea, poor appetite and heartburn. When cancer is more advanced is characterized by blood in the stool, vomiting, involuntary weight loss, jaundice (skin and whites of the eyes become yellow), accumulation of fluid in the abdomen (ascites) and difficulty swallowing.

How is detected: when the above symptoms appear, the doctor will use various tests to examine the stomach and esophagus, as blood tests and endoscopy, a procedure that is used to look inside the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).

Although not always under our control, there are things that if you can do to prevent cancer, such as those mentioned in these cases. Already warned of the three main types of cancer increased risk mean to you just because of being a man, so make the call party alert: inform yourself, ask your doctor to schedule screening tests recommended for you and above all, leads a healthy life.

Fortunately, it can be prevented with proper screening. Increase risk men with personal or family history of precancerous polyps or colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and certain genetic syndromes such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).

Symptoms: In its initial state no symptoms, so it is even more important to perform control testing and detection especially after 50 years, or sooner if family or personal history of precancerous polyps, as we indicated earlier. Although these symptoms occur, the diagnosis may be delayed because it is suspected colorectal cancer and are associated with other causes. The most common symptoms are rectal bleeding and cramps, changes in stool consistency, constipation, diarrhea, weight loss, anemia new and recent.

How is detected: from 50 years, the recommended screening for polyps precancerous to be resected (removed) before they become cancer. The tests can also detect cancer at an early stage in which treatment is most effective. If you have a family history among its risk factors, should be tested from age 40, often as directed by the specialist. The tests are:

- Traditional or virtual colonoscopy (CT colonoscopy)
- Occult blood test in feces (or stool)
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy with barium enema (an x-ray with dye to see inside the colon)

If you are near the 50 or more, ask your doctor to make an early colonoscopy and clearing doubts. Your peace of mind well worth it.

Teeth are among the major determinants of beauty. When a person loses his teeth, it’s like losing a big part of his character. While dentures may be among the greatest medical breakthroughs, it is a fact that they are not enough to entirely bring back whatever tooth or teeth have been lost. For one, dentures are not made from materials that are enough to perform the functions of real teeth. When it comes to the exterior, it is also a fact that most dentures today fail to resemble the appearance of the lost teeth. Through time, they slack off and go up for replacement. Because of this, most people think that once they lose their teeth, they can never bring back their old smiles again. With the dental implant services of the Central Maryland Oral Maxillofacial Surgery PA, however, losing teeth is no longer much of an impasse.

Central Maryland Oral Maxillofacial Surgery PA offers dental implant treatment for missing teeth. With its dental implant services, individuals who have lost their teeth are given hopes of getting back their old smile without worrying much about the fake look of their dentures. The surgical centre utilized the discovery of titanium implants as effective replacement for natural teeth to address the needs of patients who have problems with their lost teeth. The professionals housed by Central Maryland can expertly perform dental implantation procedures within just a day and ensure that their patients will not go through pain all throughout the process.

Among the advantages of choosing the dental implant services of Central Maryland Oral Maxillofacial Surgery PA over other surgical centres is that during the operation, patients are sure not to experience any pain because Central Maryland doctors do not place any stress on the adjacent natural teeth. Unlike other dentists, those in Central Maryland ensure that the healthy bones that lie within the area of the dental implant procedure are maintained and kept in place. The implants that this surgical centre uses to replace the lost teeth of their clients do not decay and are non-removable, hence are permanent.

Today, individuals who have problems with their dentures can finally find stability through the expert dental surgery services of Central Maryland Oral Maxillofacial Surgery PA. With the specialized dental implantation treatment that they offer, lost teeth can practically find their way back within a span of one day.

The biggest risk factor is cigarette smoking is the leading cause of most lung cancers and worsens over the years that has been in the habit and the number of cigarettes smoked per day. People exposed to secondhand smoke or carcinogens may also develop lung cancer.

Symptoms: constant cough that worsens with time, persistent chest pain, bloody phlegm when coughing, shortness of breath and hoarseness, wheezing, frequent episodes of pneumonia and bronchitis, loss of weight and appetite, swelling of neck and face.

How to detect: When the symptoms above, and is suspected of a lung tumor, the specialist will indicate some of these tests to establish a diagnosis:

- A biopsy to take a sample (a bit) of the tissue and is seen under a microscope for cancer cells.
- Bronchoscopy inserts a thin, flexible tube with a light at the tip to examine the bronchi and lungs and take a sample of fluid or tissue.

Most cases of lung cancer can be prevented if smoking is stopped. If you smoke, seriously consider quitting as soon as possible.

It carries the sad grand prize of being the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and is the second leading cause of cancer death among them after lung cancer. Any man can get it, but is diagnosed more often in men over 65 years. Risk factors include age (increasing the chances of getting it after 50 years), race (more common in individuals of black race) and have a close relative (parent, sibling or child) who has suffered .

Symptoms: difficulty urinating, weak urine stream or interrupted, frequent urination, especially at night, difficulty emptying the bladder, pain or burning sensation when urinating, blood in urine or semen, pain in the pelvis, back or hip that is not removed, or painful ejaculation.

Tests to detect: if caught early, treatment is much more successful. But not all experts agree on the effectiveness of tests for the possibility that yield a false positive result (the test indicates you have a cancer and it is not), for the treatment of prostate cancers that do not require as well as by severe side effects from treatment. Ideally, every man to discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of these tests, which are informed and take an intelligent decision based on your particular case. The most common tests are:

- Manual examination per rectum: is performed to evaluate the size, shape and hardness of the prostate gland.
- Analysis of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA for its acronym in English): this antigen is produced by the prostate. The test measures the level of this antigen in the blood if it is high may indicate the presence of cancer.

It is recommended that you start to get tested after 40, but see a doctor immediately if you have some symptoms.

If you asked the name of the members of your favorite team, certainly you will not fail. And surely not be wrong if they ask you any information on local or international politics. But, could you list the three types of cancer that can affect you just as a man? Do not judge a frivolous question: there are millions of men on the planet at risk of getting certain cancers. Being alert is never over.

If you enthusiastic sports statistics, they may not do so, but at least make you aware of a global problem: cancer. Those offered by the World Health Organization (WHO) are not playing thing: although we now know much more about this disease and its prevention, progress continues and you can not stop. Every year more people that have it and if the trend continues, it is estimated that by 2020 (do not think that far) will be diagnosed with cancer at 16 million people (that is, besides the cases already have found and survivors). Imagine what it means! 12.7 million cancer cases and 7.6 million deaths each year and 64% of them occur in more developed countries.

The cancer affects both sexes, but there are some cancers that occur more frequently in men. The data agree in North America and Europe where men suffer more prostate cancer, lung and colorectal cancer. In Latin America the main ones are: prostate, lung and stomach. Surely not want to be part of the statistics and the main form to do is prevention. To do this effectively you need to know the risk factors, warning symptoms, and tests to detect them.

Advances in the study of our genetic makeup or DNA have opened a new path in the search for the origin and treatment of diseases that today have no definitive solution, such as cancer. Read on to catch up on advances in genetics related to several common types of cancer. Are very promising news certainly should be welcomed.

The origin and cure of cancer in all its forms, remains the goal of much research in the genetic field. Every day more progress in that area and each day comes new information that sheds more light on this disease that affects so many people and cause them much distress to patients and their families. Let’s see what’s new.

When you understand how cancer progresses, there is the key to stopping their growth. Therefore it is important the result of a study published in April in the journal Molecular Cell, on precisely how cancer spreads.

In particular, members of the Research Institute of the Hospital de Mar (IMIM), Spain, have discovered that a protein called LOXL2 reacts on another call histone H3, which would be involved in the incapacitation of certain genes that intervene in the progression of tumors such as breast, larynx, lung and skin. A better understanding of the development and progression of tumors of these types of cancer, leaving the door open to finding effective treatments to block its development. It is a very promising step forward.

Let’s move on, because in relation to the types of cancer are the leading cause of death among both men and women, there are findings to celebrate.

With regard to lung cancer (according to the World Health Organization is what causes more deaths per year worldwide), a research conducted by an international team of scientists – published in early 2012 in the journal The Lancet – was based on two clinical studies of molecular genetics to develop a new molecular test can more accurately predict the likelihood of death in the early stages of lung cancer. The two studies show that the test, which measures the activity of 14 genes in cancer tissue, improve forecast accuracy, helping to guide better treatment of lung cancers more common, increasing the chances of survival the patient.

Another case of breast cancer, the most frequent among women and the most cancer deaths provoked. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, developed by scientists at the University of Melbourne, Australia, indicates that a rare inherited mutation of the genes responsible for DNA repair errors during the copy at cell division could increase the risk of developing breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. This type of mutation, which is not very common (known as Lynch syndrome) had been previously associated with tumors of the colon and endometrium. Immediate relatives of people with Lynch syndrome would benefit from genetic testing to detect whether or not inherited the mutation of genes, to determine if they are at greater risk of developing some cancers mentioned above.

Meanwhile, prostate cancer is the greatest concern to men and most are affected after lung cancer. In relation to prostate cancer, researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and other U.S. institutions, have detected two inherited genetic variations that could help identify those at increased risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer . These results were published in the online edition of the April 9 issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

A little earlier in the Jan. 12 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine also published a research on this topic. In this case, were researchers at the Faculty of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Health System and the University of Michigan, also in the U.S., which found the first major gene mutation associated with increased cancer risk hereditary prostate, which would be in the HOXB13 gene, and increase between 10 and 20 times the risk of developing prostate cancer!

Another much-feared type of cancer, which is also among the main causes of cancer death worldwide in both sexes, is the stomach. In this regard, an international team of scientists has identified hundreds of novel genes that mutate (change) in stomach cancer, which could lead to development of personalized treatments, according to the genetic makeup of individual stomach tumors. Details of this study were published online April 8 issue of Nature Genetics.

And these are just some examples! You see, science does not stop. And while advances in genetics continue to look for new more effective ways to combat this condition, remember to keep a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and an exercise routine, you will always benefit your health and is proven to help prevent cancer.

Women taking birth control pills have the most modern double the risk of developing a blood clot that taking the older formulation. This has been given a new study. And although the overall risk of blood clots in both types of pill is still considered low, health authorities and sent the alert. Here we tell you more about the topic so you can choose your pills safely.

Living a full and healthy sexuality involves not only live with the desired person. It also involves responsibilities such as taking the necessary care to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, the selection of a method of birth control and the decision to become parents at the right time.

For women who want to avoid pregnancy, there are several methods of contraception. One of them is the traditional pills, although they are widely used and have been improving over time, even today can be hazardous. One of the known side effects of the pill is the possible blood clots.

A study published in the online edition of October 26, the British Medical Journal has found that the use of oral contraceptives containing the newer types of progestogen (drospirenone, desogestrel or gestodene) corresponding to the hormone progesterone, along with estrogen, are more likely than others to cause what is called deep vein thrombosis, which is the appearance of a clot, often in the veins of the legs. This can be dangerous because if the clot breaks off and gets to the heart or lungs causing serious complications.

The new pickups in the U.S. are sold under the name Yaz or Yasmin, are what could cause this side effect can be serious consequences. Back in September, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA by its acronym in English) of that country issued a cautionary note about the increased risk of blood clots among women taking such pills in relation to using pills older progestins as levonorgestrel.

This risk is even greater, regardless of the type of contraception, when women have a condition called hereditary veins stenosis (narrowing) in the left iliac vein (one of two major veins of the pelvis, which carries blood from the lower body to the heart). This condition, though not well known, the present quarter of the population.

Another previous study, in this case published in July in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, was found to have “stenosis of the left iliac vein” and taking combined oral contraceptives (those containing estrogen and progestin) increased almost 18 times the risk suffering a deep vein thrombosis, compared with the absence of both risk factors.

Still, oral contraceptive pills remain an effective contraceptive method widely chosen because it also has its advantages. Do not stand in doubt! It is essential to talk with a gynecologist (as they call themselves specialists in the female reproductive system) and consult him without shame or inhibitions about what are the methods that you could take to prevent pregnancy (such as the IUD, vaginal ring and to natural alternatives) and which one is the one considered most appropriate for you. With the right information, you can choose the best for you.

Remember it is important to use birth control if you want to avoid pregnancy. All women have the right to choose when, how and with whom they want to be mothers. Also, remember to have safe sex to prevent transmission of diseases can be serious as HIV, while it may be still without a cure.

And if you have a partner, talk together about motherhood, fatherhood and the desire to have children or not, to take the decision that makes them feel better both. Clear and honest dialogue will also help them become a couple (and family) closer together in the future.

In theory it seems very easy: the male sperm swim fast to meet the female egg that month shed one of the ovaries. The first to arrive and passes through the membrane of the egg, fertilizes it. Thus all human life begins. For some couples have a child as well as fast, unexpected turns up. Others try unsuccessfully to frustration. Want to talk about the possible reasons?

Your partner and you would love to have a child, but the months passed with no sign of pregnancy. The waiting and uncertainty can become sad and frustrating situation for any couple. In the United States alone, 10% of women between the ages of 15 and 44 have difficulty conceiving or carrying a pregnancy. It is a common condition and often poorly understood. So we want to clarify certain points in relation to fertility, so they can dismiss fears and preconceptions. Consider a few:

1. An important factor to consider: age.

Age, in today’s world, is no longer an obstacle for many things and, of course, what good it is! But in matters of fertility, it can be a negative factor. Although you see in magazines artists and personalities who have conceived in middle age, most have done so after fertility treatments or egg donations, and even with these procedures are no absolute guarantees. The truth is that now women can delay marriage to pursue other opportunities in life, such as studies or career. Therefore, also can delay the time to start a family. And while this is understandable and socially acceptable, biology simply do not match. The peak of female fertility is at age 20, begins to decline slightly at 27 and drops dramatically at 35.

To give you an idea, about 20% of women in the United States have their first child at age 35. Therefore, the age has become a major cause of infertility. About a third of couples where the woman is over 35 have fertility problems, as the eggs get older, their number is reduced and the ovaries begin to have difficulty releasing every month. If you are under 35 years and have not managed to get pregnant, trying for a year before seeing a fertility specialist to discuss your options. If you’re over 35, wait six months and then go to a specialist.

2. Sex and the timing of ovulation

Many couples think that if you have sex during ovulation increases the chances of conceiving. If you think so, you’re wasting the best time for fertilization. 90% of spontaneous conceptions sex occurs when one or two days before ovulation. You’ll see why. Sperm can live inside the reproductive system for several days. The matrix is ??open before ovulation to give way, but once you clear the egg (ovulation), closes to protect the uterus from infection, so the sperm will have far fewer opportunities to reach the egg. Usually, women ovulate around day 14 of her monthly cycle. But as the cycles vary from woman to woman, and even month to month, should you purchase a computer (kit) of those sold in the pharmacy to help you predict when ovulation. Experts disagree on the frequency of intercourse in this most fertile time of month: some think it’s best to have intercourse every other day in and day out, so that the sperm count is higher. Others think that the more frequent the intercourse during the fertile days, more opportunities will there be a pregnancy. What you can rule out is the idea to climb the legs after the sperm is deposited in the vagina helps conception. In each ejaculation millions of sperm enter into your body and gravity does not affect your ability to reach the egg.

3. If you used the pill for a long time, they are not to blame.

In fact, they may even help you. Oral contraceptives prevent the release of an egg each month, but not destroy them (the women are born with all the eggs that are throughout your life. If you do not come off eventually die as women get older).

When you stop taking the pill, your cycles will return to resume and your ability to ovulate regularly work again usually 90 days to stop taking the pills, because they release hormones that can suppress the irregular growth of uterine tissue , as in the case of endometriosis and adenomyosis that may hinder the woman to conceive. They can also reduce or slow the formation of fibroids and cysts around the ovaries. So stay calm, the decline in fertility was erroneously attributed to the use of the pill for a long time, because the woman is greater when he finally decides to try to conceive.

4. What if the problem is it? To determine the causes of infertility should be evaluated to man.

Most people believe that male infertility is a problem only in a small percentage of cases, but it is not. In this responsibility is fairly well distributed: one third of the time the condition occurs in women, one third belongs to the man, the remaining third is due to a combination of both or unknown factors. Most cases of infertility related to man have to do with semen and specialists analyze it to determine: sperm count, shape and degree of mobility. The average sperm account is 60 million, less than 20 million is considered too low.

At least 50% of the sperm need to swim forward and, surprisingly, even if 95% is irregular in shape, is considered healthy and capable. Other factors related to lifestyle that may affect male fertility: the excess of alcohol, smoking and use of certain drugs, but experts say that if the sperm count is too low, changes in style life will not fill big improvements. Some people think that men can reproduce into old age, but the truth is that the count and sperm quality decreases with age. Although it hurts to admit it, the more young and healthy are eggs and sperm, it is better to increase the chances of conception and to avoid defects in the baby.

5. With what intensity you train? Of course you want to keep a good figure and get the maximum benefits of an exercise routine.

But if the workouts are too frequent or severe, can have an impact on your fertility. This is demonstrated by a recent study by the University of Science and Technology in Norway. The study involved 3,000 women. Those who trained every day, regardless of intensity, increased their risk of infertility 3.5 times compared with those that did not exercise. The women who trained to exhaustion with an intense activity levels had a threefold increased risk of infertility than all others. The researchers concluded that intense training consume so much energy that the body has no power then you need to keep all the hormonal mechanisms required for fertility. So if planning a pregnancy, you should space out the workouts and reduce the intensity of them. But beware! A sedentary lifestyle is not the solution. Moderate exercise is best placed to promote hormone levels needed to produce a pregnancy.

Do you have clarified some ideas? Do not lose hope, and above all, try to stay positive in your relationship. The recriminations and blame no place in this beautiful project of parenthood. If you have tried everything and still no baby in sight, come to the specialist to help them find an appropriate solution. Surely, when the baby arrives, parents will find more open and loving the world.

Not only can provoke discomfort intense period below the navel. There are different causes of pelvic pain may be pulling us sleep. Some have more risks than others, not all are related to the menstrual cycle and may affect different organs.

Almost all women have experienced what some call “pain in the ovaries” when we have your period (the rule). Even our menstrual cycle may provoke discomfort during, before and between periods. But why all the pains we suffer in the pelvic area necessarily related to this.

There are several causes that can provoke pelvic pain, some have more risks than others, and can be caused by conditions in different organs in the area such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, urinary tract, the intestines and rectum.

Treatment varies according to what is causing the pain: it may be a fertility problem, a slight digestive disorder or an alert that indicates a problem requiring emergency treatment.

Here are some possible causes of pelvic pain:

Appendicitis: inflammation in a tissue connected to the large intestine or colon called Appendix. In addition to pain on the right side of the abdomen, symptoms include vomiting and fever. Often mistaken for a gastrointestinal disorder, but it is very important to catch it early, because if you have inflamed and infected appendix must take it off with an emergency operation. Otherwise, it can rupture, spilling the infection into the abdomen (this is called peritonitis), leading to complications that can endanger your life.

Irritable bowel syndrome: is a chronic digestive disorder that can cause recurrent pain, cramping, bloating, diarrhea or constipation. Do not know what causes this condition but there are several ways to control symptoms, including changes in diet, stress management and medications.

Kidney Stones are stones of salt and minerals that are deposited in the urine, can be as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball. Can be very painful and the urine turns pink or red.

Urinary tract infection: occurs when a germ enters the urinary tract and can cause problems in any part of the urethra (the tube that drains urine) to the bladder, through the uterus and into your kidney. Symptoms include pelvic pain, frequent urination and pain in doing so, fever, nausea, vomiting and pain in the left or right side of the lower back.

Chronic pelvic pain: occurs below the navel, is maintained for at least six months and may interfere with activities of daily living.

Ectopic pregnancy is another situation that requires emergency treatment. It occurs when an embryo begins to grow outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. Symptoms may include pelvic pain, cramping, vaginal bleeding, nausea and dizziness.

Pelvic inflammatory disease: a pelvic infection, sometimes associated with sexually transmitted diseases, which can cause permanent damage to the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes, and is a major cause of female infertility. Symptoms include abdominal pain, pelvic pain, fever and pain during sex or urination. Treated with antibiotics and in severe cases may require surgery.

Ovarian cysts: in most cases are harmless, often give no symptoms and go away without treatment alone, but if detected, need to be monitored by your doctor. When you have symptoms can cause pelvic pain, weight gain and frequent urination. Depending on its characteristics and its size is its treatment. If they break or bleed, for example can be painful. Most are benign, but need supervision.

Uterine Fibroids: Generally not a problem but some women may experience pressure in the abdomen, pain in lower back, painful periods, pain during sex and trouble getting pregnant.

There are other causes such as endometriosis, etc.. If you are suffering from all the months of pelvic pain, you probably already know what they are about the discomforts associated with the menstrual cycle and differentiate them know if you have some other condition. So if you have or have had pelvic pain for some other reason, such as urinary tract infection or irritable bowel syndrome, possibly already know to differentiate the symptoms.

However, it is desirable that you are attentive to the signals your body sends you and do not expect to see a doctor only when you feel something different or unusual. Go preemptively simply to clear doubts, for diagnosis and treatment if you have any discomfort. Talk to your doctor about your pain, he or she could give you advice to make you feel better.
