Taking vitamin E may increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. A recent study found that generating new questions related to this vitamin that many men tend to take for their alleged antioxidant properties. Catch up on what’s new on the relationship between prostate cancer and vitamin E.

From small tell us it’s important to eat foods with vitamins to grow healthy and strong. And no doubt that a balanced diet containing vitamins and nutrients necessary for life. But many people would like to find something easier or “better” for these vitamins.

And adults, some would counter the effects of aging on health “pills and supplements.” And this is magnified by the promises of the manufacturers of vitamins and supplements. Not that they have no place, as during pregnancy, folic acid or the age of reproduction, etc..

But not everything that glitters is gold and now a new study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health suggest that, as we learned when we have done scientific studies with other vitamins, vitamin E pills, far from helping to prevent prostate cancer in men, may contribute to their development, although we are still learning, here we describe what we found.

Before you remember that prostate cancer is one of the most common among men, affecting more than one million men, only in the United States.

Researchers from the Institute of Urology and Kidney Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman, United States, after more than five years of follow-up of almost 35 000 men, taking both vitamin E and selenium (a mineral supplement) found a relationship between vitamin E intake and prostate cancer. They think that this relationship could be that a thousand men who take it, 76 would develop cancer. The relationship is not very high, but why expose?

In particular, according to this study that was published in the Oct. 12 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, the initial reports of a first trial in 2008 had found that neither vitamin E nor selenium reduced the risk of developing prostate cancer. On the contrary, seemed to have an increased risk associated with vitamin E, although it was insignificant.

According to the updated data from then until July 2011, although the rate of prostate cancer was higher among men who took supplements compared with placebo was statistically significant only among men taking vitamin E alone. Specifically, among men in the study, 529 of those taking the placebo developed prostate cancer, as well as 620 men taking vitamin E, selenium, taking 575 men and 555 men who took both supplements.

The results are not conclusive and further research is needed to detect deep this possibility actually exists and to know more about what the relationship of excess vitamin E with prostate cancer, but it marks an important fact which opened new questions for science.

The same researchers recommend not alarmed by these findings but also suggest that men take vitamin E only “in case”, as many use supplements that contain antioxidant properties, including multi-vitamins, but these benefits have not been really tested.

These data add further to other research that we had told, in which another group of Canadian researchers had also noticed that the multivitamin with selenium and vitamin E did not produce the expected effects to combat prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in men of all ages and the most common cause of cancer deaths in men over 75 years of age. So it is something everyone should consider.

To help prevent its development, as with any cancer, it is important to get regular checks (because the sooner we will treat it more easily detected), which follow a healthy diet to practice regular exercise (no stop reading this article that tells you how physical activity can help if you have prostate cancer) and to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

Dare to positive changes. With a little will you improve your health and mood, to live better and longer.

Many people think they need vitamins and run to the drugstore to buy over the counter supplements, thinking that they will feel better, something not always true. Therefore it is important to be very careful with them.

Before taking any vitamin or supplement is advisable that you consult with your doctor. And if you treat any other health problem, always remember to tell the specialist that you are taking everything you’re taking, because sometimes supplements may not be compatible with a prescription drug. Thus, you may indicate the appropriate treatment for you.

Here in Life and Health will keep you updated as new studies are being carried out related to vitamins, natural compounds and the progress of science. Your doctor is the person who can guide you in your particular case. If in doubt, ask for a second opinion.

One of the best ways to fight cancer is by taking a proper mindset in this regard. The deal with the disease as a challenge and an obstacle to be overcome is a great strategy for defeating it.

And according to the therapist Nancy Morgan one of the tools to adopt a proper mindset is writing. Expressed in this way the idea and the conception that lies behind it may sound a bit artificial, but the reality is far from it.

Then based on this idea, Nancy Morgan experimented with leukemia patients in a treatment center for cancer in Washington, making them write about their disease and how they felt about it and themselves.

This was crucial for cancer that affected his vision change achieved in relation to their disease. Even 49% of patients said the writing had changed their way of seeing the disease, and 38% said their feelings about their situation had also changed.

Writing is an excellent therapy for all cases, not only for cancer. Writing one realizes what is in the corners of his mind, and this is a remarkable exercise of self-knowledge. That applies writing therapy in cancer patients is a smart strategy on the part of medicine, and is seen, it brings results.

From my perspective the nineties caused a boom against cancer, although having positive effects in awareness in people, also contributed to psicotizarlas under the doctrine of “all cancer brings.”

From fans to aluminum pans, all at one time could cause cancer, whether short, medium or long term. And of course the phones and the coffee did not escape this trend of globalization. Even breast implants were also accused of being generators of this disease.

But a recent study doomed to tear down popular myths concluded that cell phone use, drinking coffee and cancer grafted implants do not carry the consumer, and that the presumption was saying otherwise is merely a popular belief.

This study was conducted by the University of New South Wales, and was led by Professor Bernard Stewart, who was in charge of listing the major cause of cancer among the population.

Of course that headed the list were known: the snuff, alcohol and excessive exposure to sunlight. However, factors such as using deodorants, breast implants, coffee or mobile phones were exempted from being potential to cause cancer.

Although the results of these long-term factors were not established in the study, it served to make clear that this is not necessarily cancer-causing factors, and the paranoia that surrounds them is completely incidental. I hope these points provide people who care to be cured of cancer by not drinking coffee, but who continue to smoke as few prisoners.

The night shifts are very common in our daily lives. Many doctors, nurses, transport workers, janitors, bartenders, etc.., Earn their living by working at night is to cover a vacant shift or even the need of the actual task they perform, which necessarily must be done at night.

But a recent study warning us about the night work, for not only affect our social life (to sleep during the day and be awake during the night our social life is distorted, as most people live in the light of sun), but can have a significant medical risk.

This is one of the most important and dangerous diseases that medicine called: cancer. The study conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), persons performing night shifts are nearly twice as likely to develop cancer than someone who works days.

Although this probability scientists described as “moderate” and indicated the need for a greater depth in the field to determine its causes, the data is very worrying and makes you think about this controversial issue of working hours at night.

Tentatively scientists assume that this trend is due to the alteration of the biological clock, which makes our genes capable of developing tumors increase their potential for their development.

We must be realistic, many activities must be conducted at night. A hospital can not stop working, no fire departments. The only thing I can recommend is to try to cover day shifts, and if the need is pressing and are required to work during the night, the onus is on employers, because those who work during these shifts are very concerned and need to be adequately remunerated.

Uterine cancer plaguing women of various ages, and is a disease to which science does not stop to investigate. The vaccine against cervical cancer has been proposed as a solution, not part-final but that disease.

The vaccine for cervical cancer (cervical or cervical) costs between 200 and 400 euros. The fact that this disease has such a high number of victims worldwide has questioned whether the vaccine has this high price, which has been recommended in several countries that is free of charge to the entire population with access to cervical cancer to it. Personally I consider desirable free vaccination. Services like these can not be denied to people with low income, which largely-in some countries, has no access even to health coverage.

This vaccine prevents 70% of tumors associated with this type of cancer, especially those caused by sexual transmission.

The number of doses that patients should be implemented is still uncertain. Some argue that vaccination is enough already, but much of the scientific community suggested that one alone is not enough, and probably should be given doses of up to two or more vaccinations for the effects of the vaccine from becoming fully effective.

Also the age of vaccination is under discussion. It is believed that the best age to get the dose is between nine and thirteen, but could be extended to 26. Another group of scientists believe the vaccine should be given between the ages of 11-14 years.

What is cancer?

Cancer is an uncontrolled proliferation of cells growing abnormally in the body. The transformation of a normal cell into a cancer cell is result of genetic alterations that will gradually disrupt the control systems of the cell.
The term cancer includes a set of conditions. There are over a hundred types of cancer.

Almost all tissues of our body can be affected by this disorder whose causes, trends and consequences are very different.

How does a cell become cancerous?

Healthy cells, which are the basic element of tissue, arise, divide and replace themselves in an orderly fashion following a specific program defined by their genetic heritage. This process allows the body to maintain balance.
Sometimes, however, certain cells lose their ability to controlled growth: they divide too rapidly and grow in a disorderly fashion, forming a lump called a tumor.

However, all tumors are not cancerous. If the growth stops, it is not cancer but a normal phenomenon.
But in some cases, the tumor may progress to carcinoma in situ, ie localized cancer.
When the cells continue to divide uncontrollably, the local tumor grows at the expense of tissues and organs surrounding healthy. To further develop the tumor produces substances causing blood vessels to supply it with energy. This is called neovascularization of tumors.
In passing through the blood or lymphatic system, tumor cells can spread to other parts of the body to form new tumors. This is called metastasis. The cancer becomes invasive.
So even if an initial cancerous tumor is removed, the disease may thus recur. This ability to spread throughout the body that it is essential to detect the earliest possible tumor and whether it is benign or malignant.
In all cases, effective treatments, to control the disease are possible once the diagnosis of cancer is raised.
